Dr. Thomas Euler is a full professor at the Institute for Ophthalmic Research and the Center for Integrative Neuroscience (CIN) (University of Tübingen, Germany). After his PhD (Max-Planck Institute for Brain Research, Frankfurt), he worked as a postdoc in the laboratory of Dr. Richard Masland (Harvard Medical School, Boston) and later at the Max-Planck-Institute for Medical Research (Heidelberg) with Dr. Winfried Denk – the inventor of two-photon microscopy.

Dr. Euler is one of the world leaders in studying retinal signal processing. His laboratory has established an impressive method catalogue for optical measurements of light-driven population activity throughout retinal pathways based on calcium sensors complemented with single-cell electrophysiology, immunocytochemistry, and large-scale data analysis. Dr. Euler’s work aims to unravel the function and organization of retinal microcircuits towards a better understanding of their underlying computational principles.
