Or started out studying neurodegeneration. During his PhD, he was looking for research tools that will help in understanding the causes of brain disease, so he decided to learn the delicate craft of tool building. As a postdoc, Or joined the Synthetic Biology group in MIT. There, he is creating tools that bring the precision of imaging and controlling brain activity to single cell and subcellular resolutions. To build tools, he uses different methodologies such as protein engineering, nanotechnology and electrical engineering. Presently, Or is creating tools to study and heal diseases of the nervous system.
